European communities implement digital memorials for WWII history
Communities in Switzerland and Germany are utilizing digital technology to preserve and share historical accounts of World War II events.
In Kradolf, Switzerland, the Bodensee Officers' Society and the municipality of Kradolf-Schönenberg unveiled a commemorative plaque on the Rohrenberg. The plaque, which includes a QR code, provides historical context regarding a 1941 incident where an English bomber dropped explosives on the village of Buhwil, resulting in three deaths. The site also features the Friedenslinde, a memorial established in 1918.
In Pechbrunn, Germany, local authorities have added a QR code and a digital memorial plaque to a stone erected to honor 36 concentration camp prisoners murdered by the Waffen-SS in April 1945. The digital resources allow visitors to trace the route of the death march from Buchenwald to Flossenbürg and access detailed historical research regarding the victims.
