European Congress of Grief to convene in Porto

The third edition of the European Congress of Grief is set to begin this Wednesday at the Super Bock Arena Congress Center in Porto, Portugal. The event is expected to host over 400 researchers, academics, and professionals from fields including psychology, medicine, sociology, education, and politics to share support strategies and deepen the understanding of mourning.

Clinical psychologist and researcher Daniela Nogueira, CEO of the Aurora grief support center, discussed the historical and social aspects of mourning, noting how practices like professional mourners once served social functions in Portugal, Greece, and Spain.

In the literary sphere, recent publications are also exploring themes of loss and resilience. Works such as Flávia Lippi’s ‘Nunca é só por Dinheiro’ examine the human side of death, while Saulo Florentino’s ‘Kintsugi’ uses the Japanese art of repairing broken ceramics as a metaphor for resilience and accepting imperfections.
