European Court halts forced eviction of Roma families in Belgrade
The European Court of Human Rights has issued an interim measure to the Serbian government, prohibiting the forced eviction of families in the Voždovac municipality of Belgrade. The ruling specifically halts the demolition of homes located at the corner of Braće Jerković and Vojvode Vlahovića, near the bus line 26 turnaround.
The court has set a deadline of September 1 for the cessation of these activities, a period deemed necessary to establish the facts of the case. Additionally, the Serbian government is required to submit information regarding the situation within the next seven days.
The legal action follows warnings from the A11 Initiative, which stated that the planned eviction of more than 30 residents—including 15 children—would violate both domestic law and international standards. The organization argued that the local authorities failed to provide adequate relocation plans or consultations, potentially resulting in homelessness for the affected Roma community.
