European cruise market sees rise in multi-destination and small-ship travel

The European cruise market is experiencing a shift in consumer preferences, with travelers increasingly seeking cultural immersion and multi-destination itineraries.

Windstar Cruises is expanding its European offerings by focusing on small-ship voyages. These itineraries allow access to smaller, exclusive coastal towns and harbors that are inaccessible to large commercial vessels. The approach emphasizes extended port stays, overnight dockings, and shore programs centered on regional culinary traditions and local history.

Simultaneously, research commissioned by Royal Caribbean indicates strong interest in multi-destination travel among Asian markets. A YouGov survey covering Singapore, Malaysia, India, Indonesia, and the Philippines found that 74% of respondents find exploring multiple European destinations in a single vacation appealing. Key drivers for this preference include the convenience of seeing multiple locations without airport transfers, included meals and entertainment, and the reduced need to repack between destinations.
