European crypto market shifts as exchanges compete and Euronext targets tokenization

The European cryptocurrency landscape is undergoing significant shifts due to new regulatory frameworks and strategic institutional moves. Following the July 1 deadline for the Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) regulation, which ended the grandfathering period for unauthorized platforms, licensed exchanges are aggressively competing for users within the European Economic Area (EEA).

Several major platforms have launched acquisition campaigns, including Kraken, which is offering a one-million-euro prize draw, and OKX, which announced an 8% bonus on net deposits for EEA residents. Other players, such as Coinbase and Coinhouse, have also introduced various deposit bonuses and cashback offers to attract users migrating from non-compliant platforms.

Simultaneously, the traditional financial sector is moving toward digital integration. Euronext, the operator of several major European stock exchanges, is developing a dedicated platform for tokenized assets. Recent job postings suggest the group is building an infrastructure for the issuance, trading, and settlement of tokenized stocks, ETFs, and bonds, potentially utilizing a hybrid architecture that combines permissioned networks like Hyperledger Besu with public blockchains such as Ethereum.
