Italy celebrates European Day of Jewish Culture

The 27th edition of the European Day of Jewish Culture is being observed across various Italian cities, centered on the theme of “Love.” The event, promoted by the Union of Italian Jewish Communities, aims to highlight the historical, artistic, and spiritual contributions of Jewish heritage.

In Bologna, the ceremonies included a tribute to the late singer Francesco Guccini, noting his deep connection to the local community. Italian Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi attended the event in Bologna, where he addressed the rise of new forms of hatred in public discourse and emphasized the importance of protecting Jewish communities and places of worship.

Other regional activities include:

• Rome: Official openings at the Giardini del Tempio focused on the multidimensional aspects of love, including spiritual and communal dimensions. • Lecce: The Jewish Museum hosted the exhibition “Rituals of Love” by artist Joel Itman, exploring Jewish marriage traditions. • Nicotera: A cultural and commemorative itinerary through the ancient Giudecca was organized, concluding at a memorial for children victims of the Shoah. • Milan: Discussions at the Central Synagogue explored the relationship between justice and mercy in the Torah and the historical relationship between Judaism and Christianity.
