European deportations increase following new migration pact
Following the implementation of the new Migration and Asylum Pact, deportation practices have accelerated across Europe. These measures now extend beyond undocumented migrants to include political refugees who have applied for asylum or have already been granted asylum rights.
DEM Party MP Özgül Saki reports an increase in deportation decisions specifically targeting Kurdish refugees, many of whom are being returned to Turkey. These individuals, including politicians, poets, and writers, face legal proceedings in Turkey that include requests for decades of imprisonment.
The EU Council officially adopted the Return Regulation on October 1, 2026, aimed at speeding up the removal of irregular migrants without legal residency. Saki attributes the current mass migration crisis to regional conflicts in Syria, Iraq, Palestine, Ukraine, and Afghanistan.
