European diesel demand hits historic lows amid shifting oil markets
European fuel markets are experiencing significant shifts in consumption and pricing. In several major economies, diesel demand is reaching historic lows. In Spain, August diesel consumption fell by 5.4 percent, marking the lowest level since 2003, while gasoline sales reached a peak not seen in two decades. France has also seen a sharp decline, with diesel sales dropping 9.2 percent in August, marking five consecutive months of decreasing road fuel sales.
Despite these fluctuations in demand, global oil supply remains relatively stable. Although transit through the Strait of Hormuz is at roughly half the volume seen prior to recent regional conflicts, global supply is being maintained through alternative pipelines. Brent crude prices have fluctuated around the 100 dollar mark, with markets adjusting to this new baseline.
In Hungary, fuel prices have remained more stable compared to the European Union average. Recent data indicates that Hungary remains one of the more affordable locations for refueling within the EU, with only three other member states offering lower prices than Hungary.
