European Disability Forum launches housing accessibility initiative
The European Disability Forum (EDF) has launched an initiative to collect testimonies regarding the challenges faced by individuals with disabilities when searching for housing. The campaign focuses on three critical pillars: accessibility, housing adequacy, and economic sustainability.
The collected data will be used to support the EDF’s advocacy efforts, including its campaign related to the Affordable Housing Act. By gathering concrete experiences—ranging from the initial reading of an advertisement to the practical assessment of a space’s usability—the forum aims to provide policymakers with real-world evidence to improve living conditions.
This initiative aligns with Article 19 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, which emphasizes independent living and community inclusion. The forum allows participants to remain anonymous while sharing how housing availability, location, and cost impact their ability to access work, services, and social relationships.
