A study by carVertical highlights the importance of understanding local driving etiquette and "unwritten rules" when traveling across Europe. While many drivers focus on speed limits and road taxes, failing to recognize local non-verbal communication can lead to dangerous situations.

Common signals such as high-beam flashes, horns, or hand gestures carry different meanings depending on the region. For example, in the United Kingdom, flashing high beams is often viewed as a gesture of courtesy. In Lapland, Finland, flashing lights may serve as a warning that reindeer are near the road.

In contrast, behaviors common in Romania may be problematic elsewhere. In Italy, using lights to warn other drivers about the presence of police or speed cameras is strictly prohibited by law. A carVertical study found that 47% of drivers believe that an ignorance of local road culture can generate dangerous situations, while 33% stated it can occasionally create risky scenarios.
