Eurozone economy shows recovery in Q2 2026

Eurostat data for the second quarter of 2026 indicates a general economic recovery across the European Union and the Eurozone. The EU economy grew by 0.7% and the Eurozone by 0.6% compared to the previous quarter.

Ireland recorded the most significant quarterly growth at 10.2%, though analysts note this figure is heavily influenced by multinational corporations like Apple and Eli Lilly; the Modified Domestic Demand actually decreased by 0.8%. Other notable growth rates were seen in Slovenia (1.8%) and Lithuania (1.7%).

In contrast, Austria was the only EU member to record a contraction, with its GDP falling by 0.1%.

In Greece, the Hellenic Statistical Authority reported a 0.3% quarterly increase in GDP, with a 1.9% increase compared to the second quarter of 2025. This growth was largely driven by a 6.1% annual increase in gross fixed capital formation. Cyprus also showed positive trends, with a 0.8% quarterly increase and a 3.3% annual rise in GDP.
