Greece natural gas exports surge 168% in first nine months of 2026

Greece is strengthening its position as a strategic energy hub for Southeast Europe. According to data from DESFA, natural gas exports in Greece surged by 168.77% during the first nine months of 2026, reaching 13.60 TWh compared to 5.06 TWh in the same period of 2025.

Total natural gas demand in the country rose by 12.72% to 63.53 TWh. While domestic consumption saw a slight decrease of 2.67% to 49.93 TWh—driven by lower usage in power generation and industry—total imports increased by 12.61% to 63.57 TWh.

Key import infrastructure played a vital role. The Revythoussa LNG Terminal saw an 11.58% increase in imports, totaling 24.28 TWh, with the United States accounting for approximately 74% of the LNG volumes through this terminal. Additionally, imports via the Alexandroupolis FSRU reached 5.82 TWh, a more than fivefold increase from the 1.03 TWh recorded in the previous year.
