European Energy activates first Baltic battery storage hub amid Europe’s expanding storage investments

European Energy has connected its first battery energy storage system (BESS) in Anykšciai, Lithuania. The 25 MW / 65 MWh facility is integrated with a 78.5 MW solar park at the same site, creating one of the country’s first hybrid renewable projects. Vice‑President Tadeušas Konkovskis said the system will improve grid flexibility and provide balancing services, with full operation expected before the end of June 2026. A second, smaller 12 MW / 50 MWh BESS in Telšiai is slated for grid connection by December 2026.

Across Europe, battery‑storage developers are attracting fresh capital. Eclipse, a European BESS platform, raised €20 million in a Series A round to accelerate deployment of its proprietary projects. Other recent financings include Finland’s Granarium Technologies, Sweden’s Vaja, and India’s SolarSquare, reflecting a broader surge in funding for renewable‑energy storage and solar technologies.
