European families boost holiday travel spending in 2025
Family tourism continues to grow across Europe. In France, a range of holiday accommodations – from renovated mills and forest cabins to animal‑park lodges – are being promoted for Christmas trips, with advice on access, amenities and safety for children.
A recent study by Turespaña and the Spanish Federation of Large Families shows that families accounted for 27.8% of the 96.7 million international tourists to Spain in 2025. The average family stay lasted 8.1 days in summer, with spending on lodging reaching 39.3% of total holiday costs. Compared with the previous year, families plan to increase their travel budgets by about 5% in 2026, with over half intending to spend more overall. Higher expenditures are expected for accommodation and food, especially during Christmas and summer periods, while the longest trips are still concentrated around school holidays.
Both reports underline the importance of tailored, original offers for family travelers, who are among the most loyal and repeat‑visiting segments of the tourism market.
