European Federation of Turks of Western Thrace petitions UN

The European Federation of Turks of Western Thrace (EOTDT) has raised concerns before the United Nations Human Rights Council regarding the religious rights of the minority in Western Thrace, Greece. The organization submitted a written statement during the 63rd regular session of the Council in Geneva, addressing the election of Muftis and the status of religious institutions.

In its statement, titled ‘Ongoing interference in the religious autonomy of the Turkish minority in Western Thrace in Greece and violations of religious freedom’, the federation cited the 1913 Treaty of Athens and the 1923 Treaty of Lausanne as the legal basis for the minority's religious rights.
