European fisheries officials and Italian stakeholders address maritime challenges
Stakeholders in the Italian fishing and aquaculture sectors are engaging in high-level dialogues to address environmental and economic challenges. In Puglia, UILA Pesca Puglia participated in a national conference focused on the PN FEAMPA 2021-2027 program, climate emergencies, and European prospects. Key issues discussed include the sea urchin dispute, which requires technical-scientific support for reopening fishing, and the crisis in mussel farming.
In Ancona, a delegation from the European Parliament's Committee on Fisheries, led by Isabelle Le Callennec, met with local officials and operators. The delegation visited Ancona, a major Italian fishing hub, following stops in Veneto and Emilia-Romagna. Discussions centered on the health of fish species, such as sardines and mussels, as well as the impact of climate change and mucilage on the marine environment. Experts emphasized the role of scientific research in supporting the maritime economy.
