European football attacking statistics for 2026/27 season
An analysis of attacking performance across Europe’s top seven football leagues for the 2026/27 season reveals significant disparities in scoring efficiency. Barcelona currently holds the highest attacking average with 4.43 goals per match, followed by Feyenoord (3.57), Bayern Munich (3.50), and PSV (3.43).
The Eredivisie and Bundesliga are the most dominant leagues regarding offensive output, each contributing five teams to the top 20 list. Conversely, Ligue 1 is the only major league without a team ranked among the top 20 most effective attacks. At the lower end of the spectrum, Coventry City recorded the weakest attack with an average of 0.20 goals per match, followed by Tottenham at 0.40.
In the Premier League, Expected Goals (xG) metrics provide a different perspective on performance. While Arsenal ranks sixth in xG, they maintain a highly efficient balance between offense and defense. Sunderland has emerged as a statistical surprise, recording an xG of 9.8, which is comparable to Manchester United and Brentford, though they have struggled to convert these chances into actual goals.
