European forests identified as top autumn travel destinations

A study conducted by Avis, analyzing 33 European forests, has identified top destinations for autumn travel and photography based on search volumes, social media presence, and accessibility.

Among the highlighted locations is the Fanal Forest in Madeira, Portugal. Part of the ancient Laurissilva forest, it is noted for its irregular tree shapes and frequent fog. The site is approximately 50 kilometers from Madeira Airport, reachable in about 1 hour and 15 minutes by car.

Another notable destination is Garajonay National Park on La Gomera, which features centenarian trees and frequent mist within its Laurissilva ecosystem.
