European Heritage Days 2026 begins across 50 countries

European Heritage Days 2026 has commenced, featuring cultural events across more than 50 European countries. The initiative, co-founded by the European Commission and the Council of Europe, runs from September through early November.

The theme for this year is ‘Heritage at Risk: Revive, Resist, Reimagine’. The program aims to engage the public in discussions regarding the protection of heritage threatened by war, climate change, disasters, or neglect, emphasizing the role of communities in preserving history for future generations.

Scheduled activities include guided tours, exhibitions, workshops, performances, and digital experiences. Specific examples of participating events include explorations of the saintly guard tradition in Croatia, industrial heritage tours at a former Belgian brewery, and mineral and fossil exhibitions in the French Ardennes.
