European Heritage Days 2026 to feature photography and endangered sites
The 43rd edition of the European Heritage Days will take place on September 18, 19, and 20, 2026. This annual event, coordinated by the French Ministry of Culture, offers free access to thousands of monuments, museums, and sites that are typically closed or require paid admission.
The 2026 edition focuses on two primary themes: the bicentenary of photography and the concept of heritage in peril, encapsulated by the slogan “revive, resist, reimagine.” Programming includes virtual reality tours, historical exhibitions, and workshops designed to highlight sites threatened by time, climate change, or conflict.
Across France, various local initiatives are scheduled, such as the opening of the Côte-d’Or prefecture in Dijon, guided tours of the Taillerie de Royat, and historical walks in Saint-Martin-Boulogne. Internationally, the French Embassy in Argentina will also open its doors to the public. The event aims to foster connection between citizens and their local history through diverse activities ranging from contemporary art paths to traditional craftsmanship demonstrations.
