European heritage leaders meet in Zagreb to discuss cultural resilience
The 20th European Heritage Heads Forum (EHHF) recently took place in Zagreb, bringing together representatives from 27 countries to discuss the resilience and protection of European cultural heritage. Discussions focused on risk prevention, disaster response, and the importance of digitalization in preserving cultural assets. The Croatian Ministry of Culture reported that 511 cultural, public, and sacred sites have been restored in Croatia following earthquake damage.
In a related development regarding international heritage management, an international meeting was held in Zadar to discuss the management of UNESCO-protected transnational serial cultural goods. Specifically, representatives from Croatia, Italy, and Montenegro met to coordinate the protection of the ‘Venetian fortifications from the 16th to the 17th century: Stato da Terra - western Stato da Mar’. This UNESCO World Heritage site, inscribed in 2017, includes six locations across the three participating nations, including Kotor in Montenegro and sites in Zadar and Šibenik in Croatia.
