European initiatives target food security and veterinary services
A new regional project, P114, has launched in Tbilisi, Georgia, to strengthen food security and combat food fraud and intentional contamination across Southeast and Eastern Europe. The initiative, funded by the European Union and implemented by Expertise France, involves ten partner countries, including Montenegro. The project aims to enhance regulatory frameworks, inter-agency coordination, and technical capacities to prevent and respond to food safety incidents.
In Croatia, officials emphasized the critical role of veterinary services in national security and food sovereignty. During the “Veterinary Days 2026” event in Pula, Minister of Agriculture David Vlajčić highlighted challenges such as animal infectious diseases and shortages in veterinary clinics. The Croatian government invests approximately 42 million euros annually in animal health to support livestock producers and ensure food safety for residents and tourists.
