European Investment Bank applies for foreign bank exemption in Canada
The European Investment Bank has applied for an exemption from foreign bank status in Canada. This regulatory step, published in the Canada Gazette, brings the lending arm of the European Union closer to establishing operations within the country.
This move follows a letter of intent signed in March between the bank and the Canadian government to explore collaboration in sectors such as critical minerals. The partnership aims to secure stable supply chains for metals and minerals essential to clean energy, technology, and defense industries.
The application comes ahead of an EU-Canada summit scheduled for late October in Montreal, where both parties are expected to announce further developments in their growing partnership.
