European Investment Bank boosts financing for Serbia's growth plan

The European Investment Bank (EIB) is increasing its support for Serbia as part of the Western Balkans Growth Plan. According to Damjan Sorel, head of the EIB's Regional Centre for the Western Balkans, annual financing to Serbia has risen to about €490 million since 2021, bringing total investments to €8.6 billion—an increase of over 80 % compared with 2016‑2020.

The bank’s priorities focus on Serbia’s EU accession process, the energy transition and industrial decarbonisation, and sustainable transport. Support is delivered through a mix of loans, EU grant‑funds and technical assistance to both public and private partners, aiming to strengthen project quality, institutional capacity and alignment with EU standards.
