European Investment Bank funds NATO upgrades for Klaipėda port
The European Investment Bank (EIB) has approved a 100 million euro loan to modernize the Port of Klaipėda in Lithuania. The investment is designed to adapt the terminal to accommodate NATO vessels, enhancing defense logistics along the alliance's eastern flank.
Located on the Baltic Sea, the port is situated approximately 50 kilometers north of the Russian enclave of Kaliningrad. According to Karl Nehammer, Vice President of the EIB, the project reflects current European Union priorities regarding the strengthening of collective defense capabilities. This initiative aligns with broader NATO efforts to bolster security and infrastructure in the Baltic region.
