European Jewish Culture Day to be celebrated in Lithuania

The 22nd European Jewish Culture Day will be observed on Sunday, September 6, with the theme of ‘Love’. The celebration focuses on various forms of love within Jewish tradition, including connections to family, community, God, and heritage.

In Lithuania, the Lithuanian Jewish Community has organized several events. In Kurkliai, the former synagogue will host educational sessions on Jewish life cycles, traditions, and symbols, alongside exhibitions of sculptures by Rhona Gorvy and a display of Maurice Montague Burton company jackets. Activities include food tastings and Klezmer music.

In Vilnius, the program includes Hebrew language lessons with Dr. Ruth Reches, Yiddish language lessons with philosopher Algirdas Davidavičius, and a plein air painting session. Musical performances include the Simcha dance ensemble from the ORT Solomon Aleichem Gymnasium and a concert titled ‘Erev Shel Shoshanim’ at the J. Heifetz Chamber Hall.
