European law conferences to address migration and asylum

Academic institutions in Belgium and the Netherlands are hosting upcoming conferences focused on migration and European law.

Ghent University’s Migration Law Research Group will hold a conference on 7 September 2026 to mark its 10th anniversary. The event will examine the Belgian asylum procedure and reception system, specifically addressing research regarding sexual orientation, gender-based violence myths, and the experiences of children in appeal proceedings. The goal is to foster dialogue between academic research and practical application for policymakers.

On 7 October 2026, the Maastricht Centre for European Law (MCEL), in collaboration with the Jean Monnet Chair in EU Migration Law and Governance, will host an event titled “Exploring the Boundaries of Mobility in the EU.” The discussion will focus on shifts in EU citizenship law from a functional paradigm toward a value-based understanding, alongside the implications for free movement rights. The event will feature speakers from the University of Edinburgh, the European Commission, and the Court of Justice of the European Union.
