European Lithium confronts $417 million financing gap for Portugal Barroso mine

European Lithium reported a strong 12‑month gain of 247 % but its share price fell 38.75 % in the past month, trading near half its June high. The market shift follows a feasibility study by Savannah Resources for the Barroso project in Portugal, which estimates a capital requirement of $417 million and a 14‑year mine life. Valued at about €278 million, European Lithium must raise substantial funds before moving from exploration to production.

Lithium prices have entered a correction after a recent rally, with new supply from mine restarts in China and Australia. Q2 Metals disclosed high‑grade results from its Cisco project in James Bay, Quebec, including 186 m at 1.54 % Li₂O and 138 m at 1.47 % Li₂O. The company’s stock has risen over 200 % year‑to‑date but entered a correction in July. Current lithium carbonate prices in China hover around 146,000 CNY per tonne, down from a 2025 peak of about 200,000 CNY.
