European long steel markets show uneven price trends
The European long steel market is experiencing uneven trends characterized by producer price defense against high energy and logistics costs, despite insufficient downstream demand.
In Poland, mills have increased rebar quotations to €630-640/mt CPT. Spain has seen a recovery in prices to approximately €735-740/mt, though distributors remain cautious about a return to normal sales levels by year-end. Shipping to countries like Bulgaria and Romania faces challenges due to insurance restrictions and reduced shipowner participation.
In Germany, low water levels on the Rhine are hindering river deliveries and increasing freight rates, leading to production slowdowns and material shortages. Meanwhile, Greek exports for rebar and wire rod remain available, with Greek sources citing high energy costs as a driver for price increases. Conversely, Turkish import offers for rebar and wire rod have decreased by €5-10/mt compared to the previous week.
