European markets rise amid EU enlargement and energy discussions

European markets are showing modest gains in pre-market trading as investors await key macroeconomic data from the Eurozone, including inflation trends, employment figures, and retail sales. Specific attention is focused on unemployment data in Spain and retail sales in Italy.

There is ongoing discussion regarding a potential request from Washington for Europe to release strategic diesel reserves. Such a move aims to stabilize fuel prices but could reduce safety margins for future supply disruptions. This remains a critical factor for Europe as it continues to adjust its energy mix.

Separately, the European Commission is drafting a new strategy for enlargement. The proposed model of ‘gradual integration’ would allow candidate countries to access the single market, participate in research programs, and engage in barrier-free trade before their official accession. This initiative, led by advisor Alexander Adam, seeks to strengthen European value chains and reduce strategic dependencies while requiring candidates to align geopolitically with the bloc.
