European music festivals report high attendance and record numbers
The Bregenzer Festspiele celebrated its 80th anniversary with a record-breaking attendance. Over the five-week festival, 274,795 guests attended 80 events. Verdi’s ‘La traviata’, performed on the lake, drew 193,474 spectators. The festival reported high occupancy rates across various productions, including house operas, music theater, and orchestral concerts, with nearly 100 percent capacity for several shows.
In Switzerland, the 40th edition of Openair Gampel drew 76,000 visitors over four days. Organizers implemented a new concept featuring an earlier start on Wednesday and a revised stage layout with two main stages and a central ‘Dancetower’. Despite a decrease in total entries compared to previous years due to the removal of Sunday from the schedule, organizers described the event as peaceful and successful, highlighted by Swiss musical acts and expanded wellness offerings.
