European officials distance themselves from Russia amid security shifts

European officials are increasingly distancing themselves from Russian representatives following diplomatic tensions at a G20 finance ministers meeting in North Carolina. While American hosts invited Russian Finance Minister Anton Siluanov, several European counterparts, including German Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil, refused to participate in traditional group photographs with him.

Polish Finance Minister Andrzej Domański expressed deep distrust toward Moscow, stating, “We do not trust Russia. They lie constantly, and one must be extremely careful when discussing with them.”

In Germany, the concept of “Zeitenwende” (turning point) continues to shape policy as the nation reorganizes its military and intelligence services in alignment with Western allies. This shift comes amid ongoing concerns regarding hybrid warfare, highlighted by a recent drone attack at an airport in Leipzig, which was allegedly targeting Ukrainian transport aircraft.
