European Open Science Cloud expands with 13 new research nodes

The European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) Federation has launched its first 13 research nodes, marking the first expansion of the federation beyond the EU EOSC Node. These nodes are designed to help the European scientific community locate, access, and utilize shared research data and digital services.

The nodes connect resources from various research organizations, enabling cross-border and interdisciplinary collaboration. This initial rollout is part of a larger plan to incorporate a total of 27 national, thematic, and electronic infrastructure nodes through two waves scheduled for 2025 and 2026.

The operational phase of the federation was a central theme at the EOSC Symposium 2026 held in Florence. The event highlighted practical applications of the federation in fields such as health, food, physical sciences, engineering, environment, and humanities. Additionally, discussions addressed the integration of citizen science into the EOSC framework to ensure that participants outside of traditional academic institutions can access digital research infrastructures.
