European Parliament and EU officials address policy and agricultural crises

The European Parliament is set to address several key legislative and policy issues this week. In the Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs, ECB President Christine Lagarde will discuss monetary policy, focusing on inflation dynamics and the impact of artificial intelligence. The Committee on Public Health will review the European Plan against Cancer, potentially recommending stricter tobacco labeling and limits on alcohol advertising. Additionally, the Committee on Culture and Education will vote on the future of the Erasmus+ program for the 2028–2034 period, with proposals to include volunteering and increased funding.

In Brussels, Slovak Agriculture Minister Richard Takáč advocated for urgent EU assistance for farmers affected by drought. During the EU Council meeting on agriculture, Takáč pushed for the European Commission to replenish the crisis fund for the agricultural sector, noting that current funds are exhausted. He emphasized that while long-term budgetary solutions are necessary, immediate aid is required to address rising feed costs affecting livestock production across Central Europe.
