European Parliament approves new Class B driving license regulations

The European Parliament has approved new driving license regulations aimed at easing restrictions for Class B license holders. Under the new rules, individuals may be permitted to drive vehicles with a total weight of up to 4.25 tonnes following specific training or an examination.

EU member states have been granted three years to transpose these regulations into national law, with an additional year provided for practical implementation. The exact timing for when these reforms will take effect remains to be determined by individual countries.

Currently, Class B license holders can pull light, unbraked trailers weighing up to 750 kg. For heavier trailers, the combined weight of the vehicle and trailer must not exceed 3.5 tonnes, and the loaded trailer cannot exceed the vehicle's registered unladen weight.
