European Parliament dedicates Brussels building to David Sassoli
The European Parliament has officially dedicated a building in Brussels to David Sassoli, the former President of the European Parliament. The building, previously known as the Treves building, was inaugurated on September 29, 2026, on the Esplanade of Brussels near Place du Luxembourg.
Sassoli, a journalist and Member of the European Parliament since 2009, served as President from July 2019 until his death on January 11, 2022. His leadership was notably defined by managing the institution's democratic continuity during the COVID-19 pandemic. The decision to name a functional building after him, rather than a static monument, is intended to integrate his legacy of communication and public dialogue into the daily life and decision-making processes of the European institutions.
