European Parliament dedicates room to Saint Benedict of Norcia
A room in the European Parliament in Strasbourg has been officially dedicated to Saint Benedict of Norcia. The ceremony, held on October 20 as part of the “Roots that shape the future” day, celebrated the saint's role in shaping European cultural identity and values.
The event was attended by several high-profile figures, including European Parliament President Roberta Metsola, Vice President Antonella Sberna, and ECR Group co-president Nicola Procaccini. Also present were the Apostolic Nuncio to the European Union, Monsignor Bernardito Cleopas Auza, and the Primate Abbot of the Benedictine Confederation, Jeremias Schröder.
Mayors from the three Italian cities historically linked to Saint Benedict—Norcia, Subiaco, and Cassino—were also in attendance to represent the Benedictine heritage. During the ceremony, speakers emphasized that Saint Benedict contributed to a shared European cultural space long before the continent's political structures were established.
