European Parliament delegation visits Italian fishing communities
A delegation from the European Parliament’s Committee on Fisheries is conducting a multi-day visit across the Veneto, Emilia-Romagna, and Marche regions of Italy from September 21 to 23. The mission aims to assess the needs of local fishing communities and evaluate environmental challenges in the Adriatic Sea and the Po Delta.
The itinerary includes inspections of the Chioggia fish market, meetings with local fishing associations, and visits to seafood producers in the Sacca degli Scardovari, Cesenatico, and Goro. A specific focus will be placed on blue crab processing facilities to understand the impact of the species on local mussel farming and the broader sector.
Led by MEP Isabelle Le Callennec, the delegation will also meet with Italian government officials, including the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forestry, and local mayors. The visit will conclude in Ancona with discussions involving mollusk farmers, trawlers, and local stakeholders regarding the fishing economy.
