European Parliament MEPs call for probe into far‑right alliance

Around 200 members of the European Parliament have submitted a motion requesting an official investigation into the far‑right political family that includes Germany's Alternative für Deutschland (AfD) and France's Reconquête. The request alleges that the group, labelled “Europe of Sovereign Nations,” may be breaching EU core values through extremist rhetoric and activities, such as xenophobic remarks and inflammatory statements about migrants and minorities.

If the European Parliament’s authority for political parties opens a case and finds violations, the alliance could lose up to €2 million in annual EU funding for campaigns and congresses. The motion will be voted on in the next parliamentary session, and supporters say that public money should not support parties that contravene European standards.
