European Police Bust 1.4‑ton Cannabis Shipment Between Spain and France

French and Spanish authorities arrested ten suspects and carried out 24 raids in an operation that seized about 1.45 tonnes of cannabis shipped from the Barcelona area to Rennes. The investigation uncovered 278,000 euros in cash, firearms, phones and vehicles, and estimated the broader network’s assets at around four million euros.

The drug‑smuggling group used commercial parcel services, sending at least 114 packages between September 2024 and the June operation, sometimes embedding GPS devices to track shipments. Europol facilitated intelligence exchange and analytical support, while Eurojust coordinated judicial actions and European arrest warrants.

Officials warned that the cannabis market, worth an estimated €12 billion annually in Europe, continues to attract organized‑crime groups that reinvest profits into other illicit activities.
