European Pride events drive 403 million euros in tourism spending
LGBTQ+ Pride celebrations in major European destinations have generated significant economic impact. According to a report by The Data Appeal Company and Queer Destinations, four cities—Amsterdam, Madrid, London, and Cologne—attracted over six million visitors this year, resulting in approximately 403 million euros in tourism spending. Nearly 60% of this expenditure was directed toward the restaurant and catering sector.
Amsterdam, which is set to host WorldPride 2026, saw an incremental tourism spend of 78.5 million euros, with festivals accounting for 77% of that total. In Madrid, these celebrations serve as a major driver for travel and extended stays, with dining representing 61% of the incremental spending.
Beyond the economic figures, cities like San Sebastián in Spain are gaining recognition as highly inclusive destinations. Visitors have noted high levels of visibility for the community, including municipal decorations such as Progress Pride flags and rainbow-themed public infrastructure, contributing to the city's reputation as a safe and welcoming refuge.
