European Prosecutor's Office probes costly recycling kiosks in Greece

The European Prosecutor's Office has opened an investigation into a procurement scandal involving "recycling kiosks" sold to Greek municipalities. The kiosks, installed mainly on public squares, were allegedly priced at €300,000 each, far above the €66,000 market rate.

The probe focuses on a 2020 tender that awarded more than 200 units for a total of €83 million to a single supplier. European prosecutors Eugenia Kyveli and Eleni Siskou ordered raids on the company's offices in Daftni, Pallini and Aspropyrgo, directing the Internal Affairs Police to seize the firm’s digital files, especially contracts for the kiosks and related communications services. The investigation also examines possible undue influence and fraud in the tender process. Five environmental inspectors participated in the raids, and seized material is being forwarded to the European Prosecutor's Office for further analysis.
