European Public Prosecutor's Office raids European Parliament offices
The European Public Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO) conducted searches of administrative offices at the European Parliament in Brussels and Strasbourg on Wednesday. The raids are part of an ongoing investigation into the potential misuse of European funds by the former Identity and Democracy (ID) group, which dissolved in 2024.
Patriots for Europe, the third-largest grouping in the European Parliament, stated that the searches are linked to an embezzlement probe involving the former ID group. While many staff members from the dissolved ID group transitioned to the Patriots for Europe faction, the group clarified that it is not a target of the investigation and that no elected officials are being searched. The investigation specifically targets the former secretary general of the ID group.
