2026 European Rowing Championships commence in Varese, Italy
The 2026 European Rowing Championships are being held from 31 July to 2 August on the Schiranna lake in Varese, Italy. The regatta features 450 athletes from 31 nations. Italy fields the largest team with 22 crews and 50 rowers, including the world‑champion men’s four of Luca Chiumento, Luca Rambaldi, Andrea Panizza and Giacomo Gentili, who are also Olympic silver medallists.
Italian rowers arrived in Varese after winning five medals – three gold and two bronze – at the World Cup in Plovdiv, Bulgaria. Notable achievements include Clara Guerra and Alice Gnatta’s historic women’s double victory at the Henley Royal Regatta and Giacomo Perini’s participation in the PR1 single after securing bronze at the 2024 Paris Para‑Rowing championships.
The opening ceremony was attended by federation president Rossano Galtarossa, regional sport officials and local authorities. An Euro Rowing Village on Piazza Monte Grappa hosted a cycling exhibition by the local association Ciclovarese, showcasing a Tadej Pogačar bike alongside other cycling initiatives.
