European Rowing Championships Opening Ceremony Takes Place in Varese, Italy

The opening ceremony of the European Rowing Championships was held on 30 July at the Schiranna venue on Lake Varese. The event combined sport and music, featuring the youth ensemble Orchestra da Camera Canova performing from a floating pontoon under the direction of Enrico Pagano, a former rower for Canottieri Varese. More than fifty young rowers from local clubs participated in water‑ and land‑based choreography, and the audience received EU flags to wave during key moments. After the ceremony the site transformed into a “Fun Zone” with street food and a DJ set, marking the official start of a competition that will involve athletes from 31 nations.

The ceremony highlighted values of collaboration and European unity, blending cultural performance with the sporting atmosphere of the continental rowing championships.
