Denmark intelligence warns of Russian sabotage plans against defense industry

The Danish Security and Intelligence Service (PET) has issued a public warning regarding concrete Russian plans to conduct sabotage operations within Denmark. Emil Græsholm, head of counterintelligence at PET, stated that the primary objective of these operations is to disrupt military supplies and defense equipment destined for Ukraine.

Intelligence officials identified the Danish defense industry as a key target. Potential methods of sabotage include arson and other physical attacks on strategic infrastructure. Furthermore, PET reported that Russian intelligence services are actively attempting to recruit ordinary Danish citizens through social media and online platforms. These individuals may be tasked with reconnaissance, such as photographing or filming companies and facilities, often without realizing they are working for Moscow.

This warning follows a broader trend of hybrid warfare in Europe. In Germany, authorities recently attributed a drone attack at Leipzig/Halle airport to Russian agents. In response to such incidents, European Union officials, including High Representative Kaja Kallas, are discussing stricter visa regulations for Russian citizens and preparing an extensive sanctions package targeting approximately 1,600 individuals and entities to curb Kremlin-linked activities.
