European security concerns rise amid German sabotage plot and French cyberattack
Investigations have uncovered a suspected sabotage network linked to Moscow targeting European interests. In Germany, a failed attempt to attack an Ukrainian cargo plane at Leipzig/Halle Airport was identified. Authorities suspect Oleg Levoshkin prepared the attack, while Belarusian national Andrei Karshako was tasked with execution. The plot involved a drone carrying 1.8 kilograms of Semtex explosives, which failed to detonate after striking an Antonov An-124 aircraft. Investigators found evidence of reconnaissance and suspect the explosives were smuggled through Bulgaria and Serbia.
Separately, a cyberattack has targeted the Hauts-de-France region in northern France. Two contractors, Atexo and Docaposte, suffered unauthorized access to personal data processed for the region. While the exact number of victims is unconfirmed, claims have surfaced online suggesting the data of over 700,000 individuals, including names, addresses, and banking information, may have been compromised. Local authorities have been notified, and affected platforms have been taken offline to facilitate investigations.
