European Sleeper to launch Brussels-Malmö night train in 2028

European Sleeper, in collaboration with the German operator RDC Deutschland, plans to launch a direct night train service connecting Brussels to Malmö starting in April 2028. The service is intended to run three times per week in each direction.

The planned route will include stops in Antwerp, Rotterdam, The Hague, Amsterdam, and Copenhagen. Departing around 19:00, the journey is estimated to take approximately 15 hours, with arrivals at the final destinations around 09:00 or 10:00 the following morning. This connection aims to link the Benelux region directly with Denmark and southern Sweden, while offering potential connections to networks serving London, Paris, Stockholm, and Oslo.

While RDC will provide the necessary sleeping, lying, and seating carriages, the project faces industry-wide challenges, including a shortage of modern rolling stock and complex cross-border regulatory procedures. Additionally, capacity constraints on heavily used rail corridors in Germany, Denmark, and the Netherlands may impact reliable scheduling. A formal track access application is expected to be submitted in April 2027.
