European startup leaders emphasize role in economic growth

Leaders in the European startup sector are emphasizing the critical role of entrepreneurship in driving regional competitiveness and economic growth. At the European Forum Alpbach, Hannah Wundsam of AustrianStartups highlighted the need for better integration between the startup scene, established industry, and policymakers to ensure Europe remains competitive globally.

In Germany, Verena Pausder, head of the German Startups Association, noted that large startups have created 100,000 new jobs over the last four years. While she observed a recent boom in tech startups, she criticized bureaucratic hurdles, noting that founding a company in Germany can take weeks compared to 24 hours in other EU nations. Pausder suggested that current economic uncertainties are driving more individuals toward entrepreneurship as they seek to improve the world and strengthen Europe's position.
