European sustainability initiatives scheduled for late 2026
Two distinct series of events focused on sustainability and social justice are scheduled for late 2026.
The first, the ‘European Action Week’, will take place from September 5 to 13, 2026. Organized by Architects for Future and the European Network for a Just Building Transition, the decentralized event aims to demonstrate a socially just and sustainable transformation of the built environment. With participants from over 18 countries, the program includes 58 events. Germany serves as a major hub with 29 actions, including initiatives in Berlin and Cologne focused on housing crises, community spaces, and sustainable building materials.
The second, the ‘Alternative Rohstoffwoche’ (Alternative Raw Materials Week), will run from September 28 to October 8, 2026. Organized by AK Rohstoffe, this event brings together science, civil society, unions, and politics to discuss socially-ecological and globally just raw material policies. The week seeks to provide an alternative to the expansion of raw material mining by promoting environmental and human rights standards, reduced primary consumption, and a circular economy. The program will culminate in the 3rd Raw Materials Summit in Berlin on October 6, 2026.
